Gratitude

Thanks to everyone for your love, thoughts, prayers, vibes, kharma, you name it. Eli had surgery on Wednesday (Jan 23) to re-open a soft spot on his head that decided to close prematurely. The condition is known as craniosynostosis. He's just following in the footsteps of his older brother, Owen, who had the same surgery (on the same day, different year...Jan 23, 2001) when he was 4 months old. Little Eli is doing well and will be bumping heads with his brothers again in no time.

While of course it's been sad to see our little 2 month old in a hospital gown and bandages, the hardest part of this experience is the harsh reality that there are a lot of families out there suffering beyond what I can imagine. My heart goes out to the tiny babies in the ICU that are little bigger than my hand, to the families that don't have health insurance, or to the preschoolers pushing their IV cart down the hallway.

This experience has really put things in perspective for me. My complaints in life seem pretty trivial when viewed through the lens of some of the people around me here at Children's Hospital. I'll make every effort not to take my health and my kids' health for granted.
